Michael Wollny, Eva Kruse and Eric Schaefer are right in the centre of a burgeoning European jazz explosion. Wollny is one of the most promising young pianists in Germany today, one that is classically trained but for whom improvisation has always played an important role. He has played with legendary saxophonist Heinz Sauer as part of the Heinz-Sauer-Sextet. Their album Melancholia received the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in 2005. Bassist Kruse comes to the group from a different musical background: she is just as comfortable playing with the experimental Arne Jansen Trio as she is with the electrifying dance floor beats of her other project, the Tied & Tickled Trio. Schaefer may currently be the most interesting drummer in Berlin. He studied with Stockhausen's drummer Christoph Caskl and has won national acclaim with the band Nickendes Perlgras.
